Partly to help out a friend, mostly to support a group whose mission I wholeheartedly support – getting LGBTQ individuals and allies out on the ski slopes together, a place where they are historically and drastically underrepresented – I created a logo and t-shirt to show off the group’s identity.
Rainbows in the mountains
What do you think of when asked to describe a skier or snowboarder? White? Definitely. Affluent and good-looking? Yep. Brown, heavier-set, or non-binary? Probably not. As a relatively thin and ok-looking white girl, I often struggle with my privilege in the mountains, and seek out chances to help those who don’t have that inherent privilege to 1) get out there in the first place, and 2) get the support and recognition they deserve while there.
This logo and t-shirt design was one opportunity I jumped at (along with hitting the slopes with those it represents whenever I can).
